Klintsevich: Russian 9М729 rocket is not a threat to the United States

The US claims for the 9М729 rocket are groundless.

Frants Klintsevich, a member of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, stated that the US concerns about the Russian 9М729 rocket are completely unfounded. This is primarily due to the fact that the combat radius of a Russian missile is no more than 500 kilometers, and therefore, no violations of the Treaty on the Elimination of Medium and Small-Range Missiles exist.

"The claims of the Americans to the rocket 9М729 are completely untenable: its range does not reach five hundred kilometers"- emphasized Klintsevich in his statement.

Earlier, the United States gave Russia an ultimatum - either Russia refuses 9М729 missiles that violate, according to the American side, the terms of the INF Treaty, or modernize them so that the missiles fit into the conditions of the existing treaty.

Nevertheless, Franz Klintsevich himself believes that the US intentions to preserve the Treaty on the Elimination of Short-Range and Medium-Range Missiles are already a positive signal, however, how Russia will react to it remains unknown for now.

It should be clarified that the official characteristics of the 9М729 rocket are not disclosed, and if according to some data, the maximum range of the rocket’s flight is 480 kilometers, on the other, it may exceed the range of 750 kilometers, which causes a lot of questions.

How many missiles 9М729 are in service with Russia, so far remains unknown.
