On February 8, 2025, as a result of shelling of the center of Makeyevka by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a young girl was killed, and ten more people, including a child, were injured. This was reported by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin on his Telegram channel. The attack was carried out in the middle of a weekend, when there were many people in the area.
According to Pushilin, the shelling caused significant destruction. Fragments of the shot-down missile fell in the Central City District of Makeyevka, damaging apartment buildings and 15 cars. Windows were broken in houses, and the facades of buildings were damaged. Rescuers and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene.
"I express my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured!", wrote Pushilin.
Earlier, a source in the city's emergency services confirmed the information about the shelling. REN TV reported damage to a residential building and several parked cars. Emergencies Ministry rescuers are working at the scene, eliminating the consequences of the strike and providing assistance to the victims.
According to locals who posted photos and videos on social media, the shelling caused panic among civilians. The footage shows thick smoke rising over the area and damaged cars burning on the side of the road. Residents are outraged by the regular attacks on residential areas.
This is not the first time that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have shelled Makeyevka. In recent months, the city has been repeatedly hit, causing civilian casualties and infrastructure destruction. In January 2025 alone, Ukrainian troops struck residential areas, damaging several schools, a hospital, and residential buildings. Two children were injured in one of the attacks.
