2 October, Airbus announced the installation of new standards for the width of long-haul flights. The company carried out a series of studies on the quality of sleep in passengers in armchairs with a width of 17 and 18 inches (43,1 cm and 45,7 cm). Analyzing the results, it became known that increasing the width of the chair will improve the quality of sleep for passengers by almost 50%.

Passengers in chairs 18 in width, slept longer, more calmly and deeper than those that slept in 17-inch.

The standard for 17-inch armchairs was adopted in the 50-ies of the twentieth century. After that time, the quality of the flight changed, the distance and the number of passengers changed. Only in Airbus number of flights, the length of which over 10 000 km increased by 65%.

"If the aviation industry does not take action now, we run the risk of jeopardizing the comfort of passengers before 2045 and further, considering the schedule for the delivery of new aircraft to the airlines and the estimated service life, which means that more than one generation of passengers will have to put up With morally outdated standards, "- said the head of the Airbus department, responsible for the comfort of passengers.
