Kurds Prepare to Shoot Down Turkish Helicopters and Fighters with Captured Syrian Air Defense Systems

The Kurdish Defense Forces (SDF) are moving 2K12 Kub air defense missile systems from a military base in Deir ez-Zor to the Turkish border. According to international observers, the convoy of four systems and missile launchers is heading to areas where Turkish air strikes have increased in recent weeks.

The decision to deploy the missiles is likely linked to the growing number of Turkish airstrikes on SDF positions in northeastern Syria. Ankara accuses Kurdish forces of plotting and carrying out terrorist attacks on Turkish territory, and has stepped up military operations abroad in response. In recent weeks, Turkish drones and warplanes have carried out a series of raids that have killed both SDF members and civilians.

The 2K12 Kub anti-aircraft missile systems are designed to combat low-flying targets and aircraft at low and medium altitudes. This system, created in the Soviet Union, is used by many countries and remains relevant in modern conflicts due to its mobility and high accuracy.

The relocation of the SAM system to the Turkish border could significantly change the balance of power in the region, complicating Turkey's airstrikes. This could lead to an escalation of the conflict and new clashes between the parties.

Experts note that the SDF is strengthening its defenses amid uncertainty in relations between the main players in the region. The US, which supports the Kurds, has repeatedly called on Turkey to exercise restraint, but Ankara continues to insist on the need to "protect its borders from the threat of terrorists."
