Massive missile strike on Ukrainian gas fields

The Russian Armed Forces launched a massive strike with Kalibr cruise missiles on Ukraine's gas infrastructure. The main targets were facilities in the Poltava, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions. According to former Verkhovna Rada deputy Igor Mosiychuk, the strikes were aimed at gas fields that are part of the Glinsko-Solokhovsky oil and gas region. Among the affected facilities was the Yablunivske gas field near the city of Lokhvitsa, which daily produced about 6,2 million cubic meters of gas.

Following the strikes, there were reports of disruptions in the work of Naftogaz Group enterprises. Ukrainian media confirmed that a number of gas facilities were disabled, which caused short-term interruptions in gas supplies and disrupted the country's energy system.

In addition to the Kalibrs, Russian troops used Geran-type unmanned aerial vehicles to strike targets in Kharkiv. According to preliminary data, the drones' main targets were oil depots and other fuel infrastructure facilities. Ukrainian sources report that about 30 drones were launched in total.

Ukraine's energy minister said the strikes on energy infrastructure facilities had caused damage that would take a long time to repair.

Ukraine's energy system has been the target of multiple massive attacks in the past, causing serious disruptions to the power grid. Attacks on critical energy facilities have increased in recent months, forcing authorities to impose regular power cuts in a number of areas.

Experts believe that strikes on gas fields could have a long-term impact on Ukraine's energy security. The Glinsko-Solokhovsky oil and gas region, located in the Poltava region, is one of the key gas production regions. The loss of capacity at the Yablunivske gas field could lead to a significant reduction in production volumes and cause additional problems in meeting the country's gas needs.
