MFA of Australia: Russia will pay for the disaster MN17

Following on from the statement by the Australian Foreign Minister, Julie Bishop, Russia is obliged to pay compensation to the 38 families of the Australians who died in 2014 in the crash of a MH17 flight shot down by a missile near Donetsk.

The official investigation issued a verdict that the missile was launched by the 53 missile brigade of the Russian armed forces. As a result, Australia, together with the Netherlands, are preparing to file a lawsuit against Russia with the accusation of destroying the Malaysian airliner.

Bishop said that the families of the victims are eager to hold Russia accountable. "They want their suffering to end, they deserve justice, and we will try to seek redress for the atrocities committed," Bishop said. "We will bring Russia to justice for the destruction of MN17 in accordance with all norms of international law."

Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Bloch said that his country, together with Australia, "offered Russia to start negotiations to solve the problem, which would help to find a way out, to compensate for the damage and suffering caused by the death of MN17." He specified that Russia does not participate in the criminal proceedings on the incident with the crash of the Malaysian airlines.

Dmitry Peskov, the secretary of the press service of the Russian president, said at a meeting with journalists that Russia did not take part in the Dutch investigation, and therefore can not believe its results.

On the question of whether the Kremlin denies the accusations of Russia's involvement in knocking down the aircraft over the Ukrainian Donbas, Peskov replied: "Absolutely." Answering the question about the possible monetary compensation for the families of victims of the plane crash, Peskov advised to apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On July 17, 2014, a passenger Boeing 777 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, but was shot down by a missile. There were 298 people on board - all of them died. The airliner crashed in the area of hostilities, just 50 km from the Russian-Ukrainian border, where the military forces of the Ukrainian government forces and the separatists clashed.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said on Thursday about its non-involvement in the destruction of the airliner, the Interfax news agency reported.

Representatives of the research group of civil journalism Bellingcat said on Friday that they know the name of the key participant in the events, which the investigators who are investigating the case of the Boeing shot down over the Donbass are looking for.

At a press conference in The Hague, they called the culprit in the tragedy of Russian citizen Oleg Vladimirovich Ivannikov. He is known in the investigation group by the name "Andrei Ivanovich" and by the call sign "Orion".

Bellingcat stated that during the crash of MN17 Ivannikov served in the Russian army and worked under cover in the Lugansk People's Republic controlled by Ukrainian separatists.

The representative of the organization stressed that this person controlled and coordinated the actions of separatists, Russian militants and private army units, "and was also responsible for the purchase and transportation of arms across the border between Russia and Ukraine.

A joint investigation team made a statement on Thursday that the plane was shot down in the sky over eastern Ukraine by a Russian missile.

The Russian military department denies that Russia's anti-aircraft missile units have ever crossed the Russian-Ukrainian border.

In May, the Australian government reported that within 4 years will allocate 50 million dollars from the budget for legal expenses, just to punish the perpetrators of the tragedy of the MH17 flight.
