Israel Defense Ministry Begins Purchasing Laser Air Defense Systems

Israeli defense company Elbit Systems has announced that it has received a direct order from the Israeli Defense Ministry for the Magan Or laser interception system, designed to defend against missile threats. The contract is worth approximately $200 million, and the system, according to the company, will effectively intercept threats from the ground, such as missiles aimed at Israel.

The contract, Elbit representatives say, marks the successful completion of a system the company has been working on for decades, using its accumulated knowledge and advanced technologies. Magan Or is expected to become an operational system ready for use in the field in a few years, providing Israel with new security capabilities.

Elbit Systems President and CEO Bezalel (Butzi) Machlis emphasized the significance of the development and its strategic importance for Israel:

"As a national center for laser technology and a world leader in high-power lasers, Elbit is proud of its contribution to the Magan Or project and its successful implementation. The technologies developed by our company are a step forward in protecting Israel from modern threats."

The Magan Or system is the result of Elbit’s years of research and development in the field of high-power lasers. The company explains that laser technology integrated into the new interceptor provides a significant advantage: lasers can effectively destroy targets at a safe distance without relying on ammunition reserves. The system promises to be more economical and faster to use than traditional air defense systems.
