On January 20, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported the liberation of two settlements by Russian troops: Novoegorovka in the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) and Shevchenko in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). These successes were achieved during active military operations in the eastern direction, where the Russian Armed Forces continue offensive operations.
The village of Novoegorovka in the LPR came under the control of units of the Zapad group of forces. As part of this operation, Russian fighters inflicted significant losses on Ukrainian units operating in the areas of Ivanovka, Yampol and Seversk (DPR). As specified by the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Ukraine lost up to 400 servicemen, including personnel of two mechanized and one infantry brigade.
At the same time, units of the Center group of forces advanced deep into the defensive positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and liberated the village of Shevchenko in the DPR. As a result of the fighting in this direction, the enemy suffered even more significant losses. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, up to 545 servicemen were destroyed, as well as two American-made M113 armored personnel carriers, three cars and a 122 mm Gvozdika self-propelled artillery unit. The losses of the Ukrainian side also include a significant number of fighters from mechanized and motorized infantry brigades, as well as units of the National Guard.
The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the information about the loss of control over populated areas. However, experts note that the continuation of active military actions in the LPR and DPR may indicate preparations for larger-scale operations in this region.
