NATO's new strategy - a preemptive nuclear strike on Russia?

The NATO Military Committee has approved a new alliance strategy.

The Military Committee, which is the highest military body of NATO and is responsible for advising the main political body - the North Atlantic Council, as well as the Nuclear Planning Group, this week held a closed meeting at the level of chiefs of staff.

During the meeting, approved a new strategy. Its specific directions are not disclosed, as it is a closed document. It is noted that the direction of the strategy is “the adaptation of the North Atlantic alliance to the increasingly complex security challenges.” The definition of the parameters of “effective deterrence and defense” is called the direction. Decision making, future plans, ensuring consistency of “common effort” are also named. According to experts, NATO decided to change the concept of nuclear deterrence, including the question of a preventive nuclear strike.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stotenberger said that the military strategy requires updating because of the “nuclear threat” coming from Russia and new challenges in the south and east. He stressed that "it is a matter of complete readiness for defense and the ability to ensure stability in the future."

At a summit last year, NATO members adopted a separate statement on transatlantic security. At the same time, accusations were made against Russia, since it “challenges the international order based on rules”, and conducts “provocative activities”, making attempts to undermine the institutions of the alliance and bring about a split. At the same time, the Secretary General announced his readiness for dialogue and constructive relations with Moscow.

The Kremlin has repeatedly pointed out that NATO is trying to present Russia as the main threat to the West, although there are no grounds for that. As President Vladimir Putin has stressed, Russia's nuclear doctrine does not provide for a preemptive strike. Moscow can use nuclear weapons only as a retaliatory strike, however, obviously, in the West they decided to take advantage of this.

Preventively, NATO itself will receive a nuclear strike of such power that radioactive ash will remain from this organization.
