First casualties of Boeing 737 plane crash in Indonesia found

Rescuers discovered the first victims of a plane crash off the coast of Java.

Tonight off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Java crashed passenger aircraft Boeing 737-800, owned by the airline «Lion Air»... Rescuers working at the crash site have already found the first victims of the incident and the tragedy, and, as experts emphasize, the likelihood that anyone on board the plane was still able to survive is extremely small.

According to Indonesian media, at the moment, rescuers found about two dozen victims of the tragedy. Most of them were on the surface of the water, which indicates either a strong blow, literally breaking the plane into parts and freeing people, or the attempts of passengers and crew aboard to leave the fallen aircraft.

The exact number of people aboard the aircraft is still unknown - according to local media, we are talking about 189 passengers and crew members, while representatives of the airline "Lion Air" declare 185 people aboard.

Rescuers claim that the crew apparently tried to make an emergency landing on the water, but a large number of debris indicates the fact that control over the aircraft at the time of touching the water was lost.

It should be clarified that the main considered circumstances of the tragedy are engine failure and control violations of the aircraft.

The Boeing 737MAX-8 (and not the Boeing737-800), an onboard PK-LQP, crashed.
