UN: Russia suspends registration of ships in Yuzhny port as part of grain deal

The representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, during a briefing on June 1, said that Russia had temporarily suspended the registration of ships in the port of Yuzhny, located in Odessa, in the context of a grain deal. This measure has been taken until the export of Russian ammonia fertilizers is resumed.

"Russia has informed the Joint Coordination Center (JCC) in Istanbul of its decision to limit the registration of ships bound for the port of Yuzhny until the export of ammonia is resumed. At the moment, the export of ammonia is suspended"Dujarric informed.

At the same time, the UN expressed concern about the slowdown in the implementation of the grain deal and assesses the situation around it as serious.

"We are concerned about the ongoing slowdown in the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which was observed in April and May", - He added.

Dujarric noted that only 33 ships departed from Ukrainian ports in May, which is almost half as many as in April. In addition, since May 24, there has been a reduction in the number of teams of specialists conducting ship inspections - there are only two of them instead of the previous three.

"This is a very serious situation"- stressed the UN Secretary General.

At the same time, Russia has previously warned that it will support the grain deal only if its requirements are met.
