Pakistan strikes Indian Air Force base

Satellite images released on May 10, 2025, showed extensive damage to India’s Udhampur air base in Jammu and Kashmir, the subject of a bitter dispute between India and Pakistan. Pakistan claims it carried out successful ballistic missile strikes as part of Operation Banyan-ul-Marsus, launched in response to India’s Operation Sindoor. India denies the claims, providing footage of the base that experts say may be outdated. The conflict, sparked by the April 22 Pahalgam attack, continues to threaten regional stability despite a US-brokered ceasefire.

According to Geo TV, Pakistan claimed to have destroyed key facilities at the Udhampur, Pathankot and Adampur air bases, including a BrahMos supersonic missile depot and an S-400 system. Satellite images obtained by Reuters show several large craters in Udhampur, confirming the strikes. However, the Indian Defence Ministry, as reported by The Times of India, claims that the damage is minimal and that Pakistan's figures are exaggerated. India has released video footage showing what appears to be untouched infrastructure, but analysts interviewed by the BBC say the footage may predate the attacks.

The conflict began after a militant attack in Kashmir killed 26 tourists. India, accusing Pakistan of supporting terrorists, launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, launching missile strikes on nine Pakistani targets. Pakistan responded with massive attacks, including one of the largest dogfights involving 125 fighter jets, according to CNN. Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian jets, including three Rafale jets, though India denies this.
