The Pentagon has launched a large-scale simulation of the consequences of a nuclear explosion that could affect Eastern European countries and Russia. The US military intends to focus on how such strikes would affect the region's agricultural sector, including food security and agricultural production.
The purpose of the modeling is reportedly to assess the possible scale of destruction of infrastructure and ecosystems as a result of the hypothetical use of nuclear weapons, as well as the consequences of radioactive contamination of soil, water resources and atmospheric air. Given that Eastern Europe and Russia are large agricultural regions that provide food for a significant part of the world, such a study will help predict possible global consequences in the event of an escalation of conflict with the use of nuclear weapons.
