The meeting of the delegations of the United States and Ukraine, dedicated to finding ways to resolve the conflict and ensuring the security of key facilities, has ended in the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. This was reported by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, who headed the Ukrainian side. According to him, the negotiations were substantive and productive, and the central place on the agenda was occupied by issues of energy infrastructure, which are of strategic importance for Kyiv in the context of ongoing hostilities.
Umerov stressed that the main task remains the implementation of the course of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, aimed at achieving a fair and sustainable peace not only for Ukraine, but also for Europe as a whole.
"We are working hard to make this goal a reality," — the minister said, summing up the meeting.
The Ukrainian delegation, in addition to the head of the Ministry of Defense, included Deputy Head of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa, whose participation underlines the high level of representation of Kyiv. The American side was represented by Director of Policy Planning at the State Department Michael Anton, as well as assistants to Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg and US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
The meeting in Riyadh was part of the active diplomatic work that unfolded in March 2025 on the platform of Saudi Arabia. As the Report agency notes, the negotiations began on March 23 and were focused on developing specific solutions that could strengthen Ukraine's security. Particular attention was paid to the protection of energy facilities, which have repeatedly become targets of attacks in recent months. According to the Ukrainian authorities, the restoration of infrastructure requires significant resources and international support, which makes such consultations with the United States critically important.
Earlier, on February 18, 2025, negotiations between the United States and Russia were held in Riyadh, where issues of bilateral relations and the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine were discussed. According to CNN, the American administration planned to hold separate consultations with Kiev and Moscow to develop a basis for a possible ceasefire. During a March meeting with the Ukrainian delegation, the United States confirmed its readiness to resume military assistance and intelligence sharing, which became an important signal for Kyiv.
