6 January 2014. Retraining of aviation pilots is planned for 2014 year. They will be retrained on a modernized version of the aircraft - IL-38N.

The program is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. The first group of the theory has already passed and successfully started to practice (flight training program).

The new program for updating the IL-38H introduced enhanced capabilities, added magnetic and sonar buoys.

The vessel can perform not only antisubmarine tasks, but serve as a patrol aircraft for reconnaissance or rescue operations. The ship detects targets at a distance of 320 km.

Also the equipment of the ship "Novella" is used in the compilation of magnetic and gravity maps for the Arctic Ocean.
