Preparations for Putin, Trump and Zelensky talks could drag on for months

Preparations for trilateral talks involving Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could take weeks or even months, according to sources familiar with preliminary diplomatic contacts.

The proposed talks are aimed at finding ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and developing conditions for ending hostilities. However, organizational complexities and disagreements on key issues on the agenda make the preparation process lengthy and requiring the agreement of many details.

The main difficulty, the sources said, is agreeing on a format for the meeting and an agenda that would satisfy all parties. The United States, represented by Trump, is inclined to focus on issues of an immediate ceasefire and creating conditions for a subsequent peace agreement.

Kyiv insists on clear guarantees for the restoration of territorial integrity and categorically rejects any concessions that could threaten the country's sovereignty. President Zelensky has previously stated on numerous occasions that Ukraine will not accept conditions that provide for territorial concessions.

Despite significant differences in positions, the initiative to hold negotiations received support from a number of international organizations. Representatives of the UN and the European Union expressed their readiness to facilitate the organization of the meeting and act as observers or mediators.
