Ukrainian media reports that President Volodymyr Zelensky has made a fundamental decision to detain former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The former head of state is planned to be charged with treason. According to sources, Poroshenko may be detained in the coming hours.
Security forces are already at Poroshenko's residence, awaiting further instructions. There has been no official confirmation from the President's Office or law enforcement agencies. However, observers believe that the treason charges may be related to his actions during his presidency and subsequent political activities.
Petro Poroshenko is one of the most influential figures in modern Ukrainian politics. As president from 2014 to 2019, he became a symbol of Ukraine’s pro-Western course. His policies were aimed at rapprochement with the European Union and NATO, which provoked strong opposition from Russia.
This is not the first time that accusations of treason against Poroshenko have appeared on the Ukrainian political agenda. In 2021, a case was already opened against him related to the supply of coal from the territories of Donbass not controlled by Kyiv. At that time, Poroshenko was accused of assisting in the financing of terrorism, but he managed to avoid arrest. The politician claimed that the charges were politically motivated and were an attempt to eliminate him as an opposition leader.
