Poland will hand over Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine by the end of February

Poland will reduce the terms of training and deliveries of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine from 10 to 5 weeks.

Poland intends to transfer 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine by the end of February. Initially, it was assumed that this would happen only at the end of March or the beginning of April, however, the Polish military intends to reduce the process of training Ukrainian tankers to work on Western combat vehicles from 10 to 5 weeks, since Ukrainian tankers already know the basic principles.

“If we intensify training, increase the number of instructors, optimize our time and our weekends, we can train a whole crew in five weeks”, - said Major Maciej Banashinsky, commander of the Polish training center Leopard.

Among other things, Poland intends to transfer another 60 PT-91 Twardy tanks to Ukraine, which are supposed to be used until the supply of Western tanks to Ukraine becomes larger.

In turn, experts note that the shortened period of training of Ukrainian tank crews by the Ukrainian military will not give a real advantage, since in other countries the Ukrainian military will have to undergo a full course of training and therefore a company set of tanks delivered to Ukraine ahead of the original deadlines will not affect the strengthening Ukrainian troops.
