Poland has decided to close the Russian Consulate General in Krakow

Warsaw has announced a new step in the escalation of the diplomatic conflict with Moscow: the Russian Consulate General in Krakow will cease its work. This was announced by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, who accused Russian diplomats of involvement in subversive activities. The decision, taken against the backdrop of a tightening of relations between the two countries, was another blow to Russian-Polish ties. The closure of the consulate in Krakow, according to Sikorski, is part of a strategy to protect Poland's national interests in the context of the "hybrid war" that, according to the minister, Russia is waging.

The decision to close the consulate in Krakow follows a similar move against the Russian consulate general in Poznan in October 2024. At that time, Warsaw expelled 10 Russian diplomats, accusing them of involvement in the arson of a paint factory in Wroclaw. Sikorski also threatened to close all remaining Russian diplomatic missions if Moscow did not stop such actions. As of May 2025, only the consulate in Gdansk and the embassy in Warsaw remain in Poland, but their future is also in question. Poland is considering transferring the building in Poznan to the Ukrainian consulate, which would underscore Warsaw's support for Kyiv in the conflict with Russia.

The Russian side has not yet commented on Warsaw’s actions.
