There will be no Russian representatives at the Munich Security Conference

The meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US Vice President J.D. Vance on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference scheduled for February 14, 2025, was postponed to a later time. According to the European Pravda publication, the reason for the postponement was the approval of a memorandum of partnership between Ukraine and the United States. The Ukrainian side handed over the document with amendments to their American colleagues, who requested additional time until 17:00 to finalize it. The decision to postpone the meeting was made at the last moment, when some Ukrainian journalists were already at the site of the negotiations.

In addition, the plane carrying US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, en route to the conference, was forced to return to Maryland late on February 13 due to a mechanical problem. This could affect the US delegation's schedule of meetings.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that a meeting of high-ranking US, Russian and Ukrainian representatives would take place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on February 14. However, adviser to the Ukrainian president Dmitry Litvin denied this information, emphasizing that "a conversation with the Russians is not expected in Munich." According to him, Ukraine should first discuss its position with the US and Europe before entering into negotiations with Russia. Information about the absence of Russian representatives at the Munich Conference is also confirmed by German media.

"There will be no representatives of the Russian Federation at the Munich Security Conference, so the negotiations with it announced by Trump should not take place," - it is told in the message.

The Munich Security Conference, taking place from 14 to 16 February 2025, is one of the world’s leading forums for discussing international security issues. This year’s conference will focus on prospects for ending the conflict in Ukraine and strengthening the international order. More than 350 sessions are expected to cover a wide range of topics, including multilateral governance reform, regional conflicts, and transnational challenges such as climate change and food security.

The absence of Russian representatives at the conference was confirmed by the head of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen. He noted that Russian officials were not accredited for the event and the German federal government did not issue the appropriate visas to representatives of the Russian authorities.
