A powerful explosion occurred in Sevastopol, which preliminarily took the life of the chief of staff of the 41st brigade of missile ships and boats of the Black Sea Fleet, Captain 1st Rank. The incident occurred at about 10 am on Taras Shevchenko Street, near a pedestrian crossing. Presumably, the explosion was caused by a homemade explosive device planted in his Chevrolet car. This was reported by Mash na volne.
Eyewitnesses who were nearby at the time of the tragedy reported that the force of the explosion was so significant that both of the man's legs were torn off. Attempts to resuscitate him on the spot were unsuccessful - the captain died from injuries incompatible with life.
According to local residents, the shock wave was felt in houses throughout the area - the blast shook windows and car debris flew across neighboring yards, hitting even remote areas. Law enforcement agencies immediately began working at the scene.
