Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made a surprise statement, outlining the need for dialogue with the United States at the regional and international levels. These words were voiced at a meeting with former Iranian foreign ministers in Tehran on November 12, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reports.
Pezeshkian emphasized that in order to resolve domestic economic and social issues, the country needs not only to consolidate domestic resources, but also to intensify international contacts, ease tensions, and strengthen ties with other countries. This is especially relevant in the context of regional crises and sanctions pressure. According to him, it is vitally important for the country's development to establish productive cooperation with neighbors and world powers.
"Even with regard to the United States, whether we like it or not, we will have to accept the inevitability of interaction on the global stage. Therefore, we must take the initiative ourselves and manage this process, instead of leaving it to the discretion of other forces," Pezeschkian emphasized.
The president also said his administration intended to expand ties not only with traditional partners but also with Europe, noting that talks with European countries were ongoing. However, Pezeshkian accused the “Zionist regime” of trying to thwart those talks, complicating an already difficult diplomatic situation. According to him, Israel’s recent actions are aimed at undermining regional stability and complicating Iran’s international contacts.
Interestingly, just last week Pezeshkian was more skeptical about interaction with Western countries. He said Iran does not depend on external support and is focused on internal forces and national resources.
