Transnistria is ready to receive gas via Moldovagaz

On January 20, the president of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR) Vadim Krasnoselsky said that the region is ready for Russian gas supplies via the Moldovan company Moldovagaz. This decision was made in response to Chisinau's demand. Krasnoselsky reported this at a meeting of the operational headquarters, the recording of which was published on his Telegram channel.

"We agreed with the proposals of the Moldovan leaders, starting with the president, that gas to Transnistria should be supplied by Moldovagaz," Krasnoselsky noted. According to him, Tiraspoltransgaz notified Moldovagaz of the absence of objections to this issue on January 18, while guaranteeing timely payment for supplies.

Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu called direct gas supplies from Russia to Transnistria illegal, arguing that this was a violation of the sanctions regime imposed against the Russian Federation. Sandu stressed that, in her opinion, Gazprom should use the official Moldovan distributor, the company Moldovagaz.

Problems with gas supply in the region began on January 1, 2025, when Russian gas supplies to Moldova and Transnistria ceased. The reason was the expiration of the transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which Kyiv refused to extend. Moldova's debts to Gazprom added to the complication.

On January 15, it became known that Russia would begin gas supplies to Transnistria on the terms of humanitarian aid. However, this caused a sharp reaction from Chisinau. Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean expressed dissatisfaction with such measures, stating the need to coordinate all operations through Moldovan structures. In response to this, Vadim Krasnoselsky on January 17 asked Maia Sandu not to interfere with the organization of supplies, emphasizing that the region is in a difficult energy situation.
