Putin signed a decree on compensation for damage to the Russian Federation and the Central Bank from unfriendly actions of the United States

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the procedure for compensation of damage in the event of confiscation of Russian assets in the United States. The document was published on the portal of legal acts and is aimed at protecting the interests of Russian copyright holders in response to possible actions by the American authorities.

According to the text of the decree, Russian copyright holders, such as the Russian Federation or the Central Bank, have the right to apply to the court to establish the fact of unjustified deprivation of their rights to property as a result of decisions of US government or judicial authorities. The application must provide an assessment of the damage caused.

To compensate for damage, the possibility of seizure of property of the United States or persons associated with them in Russia and the subsequent transfer of this property to the copyright holder is provided. This step is aimed at creating a mechanism for legal protection of Russian assets abroad.

The Russian government has been instructed to make the necessary amendments to legislation within four months to implement the presidential decree. These changes should provide a legal basis for implementing the provisions of the decree and protecting Russian interests.

Putin's decision follows US President Joe Biden signing a law that gives the US president the right to seize Russian assets in America and transfer them to rebuild Ukraine. The law, known as the REPO Act, allows the head of state to make decisions about confiscation without congressional authorization.
