On February 14, 2025, units of the missile forces of the Zapad group carried out a powerful strike on the temporary deployment point of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The strike was carried out using Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, more than 30 Ukrainian servicemen were killed in the attack.
The strike was carried out with high precision. The Tornado-S MLRS used in this operation is one of the most modern and effective multiple launch rocket systems, capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 120 km. Thanks to the updated fire control system and the use of high-precision missiles, the Tornado-S allows for strikes on fortified enemy targets with minimal deviations from the specified coordinates. This makes it a powerful tool in modern military operations.
According to sources, the strike was part of a larger operation to suppress logistics hubs and temporary bases of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the western direction. Units of the "West" group have been conducting active offensive operations for several months, using complex strikes on key enemy targets.
In addition to the destroyed servicemen, significant damage was inflicted on the equipment and infrastructure of the Ukrainian side. According to intelligence, among the destroyed objects were an ammunition depot and an armored vehicle parking lot. This seriously weakened the combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces unit in this area.
The strike on the temporary Ukrainian Armed Forces base was a continuation of a series of high-precision attacks carried out by Russian troops in recent weeks. Earlier, in January 2025, similar strikes were carried out on Ukrainian positions in the Kharkiv region and the Slavyansk area. At that time, significant losses were also reported among Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel and equipment. These actions are aimed at disrupting the enemy's logistics chains and reducing its capabilities for counter-offensive actions.
Recently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been actively using temporary deployment points to accommodate personnel and prepare for new operations. However, such objects often become priority targets for Russian artillery and missile forces. In this case, the use of the Tornado-S allowed the threat to be quickly and effectively eliminated, preventing a possible Ukrainian offensive in this section of the front.
Military analysts note that the Tornado-S plays a key role in suppressing strategically important enemy targets. Unlike its predecessor, the Smerch system, the new modification has improved control characteristics and the ability to use high-precision guided missiles. This allows it to effectively hit both concentrations of manpower and fortified command posts and ammunition depots.
The reaction of the Ukrainian side to the attack remains unknown. However, it is obvious that such an operation causes significant damage to the defense capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and complicates the planning of further actions. The Russian side continues a series of pinpoint strikes aimed at disorganizing the command and control of the Ukrainian troops and destroying their defensive positions.
