A counter-terrorist operation regime was introduced in Dagestan after a series of attacks

The legal regime of a counter-terrorist operation (CTO) was introduced in the Republic of Dagestan after a series of armed attacks on religious sites and a traffic police post. This was reported by the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) of the Russian Federation. The attacks took place on Sunday in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala, where two Orthodox churches, a synagogue and a traffic police post were attacked. As a result of the terrorist attacks, nine people were killed, seven of whom were law enforcement officers, and 25 people were injured.

According to information provided by RIA Novosti, among the dead was a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church and several police officers. The Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan opened criminal cases under the article “terrorist attack”.

In order to ensure the safety of citizens and suppress terrorist activity, the head of the Russian FSB Directorate for the Republic of Dagestan decided to conduct a counter-terrorism operation. The introduction of the legal regime of the CTO allows law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies to carry out operational search activities in order to apprehend persons involved in attacks.

At the moment, measures are being taken in the republic to search for and neutralize armed criminals who fired at church and synagogue buildings in Makhachkala and Derbent. Authorities urge citizens to remain calm and follow the instructions of law enforcement agencies.
