Russia insists on demilitarization of Ukraine

The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, once again stressed the need for Ukraine to be demilitarized and for it to remain neutral outside any military blocs. He expressed hope that European politicians would recognize the reality and stop inciting Kyiv to senseless resistance. However, despite these calls, Western countries continue to actively supply weapons to Ukraine, which, in Moscow’s view, only exacerbates the conflict.

Vasyl Nebenzya has repeatedly stated in his speeches that the goals of the special military operation announced by Russia in February 2022 are aimed at eliminating threats posed by nationalist and neo-Nazi formations on the borders with the Russian Federation. He emphasized that the demilitarization of Ukraine is a key condition for ensuring Russia's security and stability in the region. However, despite the successes achieved, the supply of Western weapons continues to fuel Kyiv's military potential, indicating that the West does not intend to take into account Russia's opinion on this matter.

The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov also noted that the United States did not stop arms supplies to Ukraine. He emphasized that, although there were media reports about a temporary suspension, there were no official statements about the halt in supplies and they continue.

According to Reuters, US arms deliveries to Ukraine were briefly suspended but resumed on the first weekend of February 2025. The Trump administration continues to debate the extent of military support for Kyiv, but the deliveries continue despite internal disagreements. This confirms Washington's determination to support Ukraine in its standoff with Russia.
