Russia stopped participation in the rocket agreement

The State Duma suspended the rocket agreement.

RIA Novosti reports that on Tuesday, 18 of June, the State Duma adopted a law on the suspension of Russia's participation in the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Short-Range Missiles (DDSMD). The number of deputies who voted for the law was 417, one of the parliamentarians abstained.

The document has a clarification. It provides that the resumption of the agreement by Russia will take place according to a decision taken by the head of state.

A review of the president’s initiative by the Federation Council is scheduled for June 26.

The draft law on the suspension of the INF Treaty, President Vladimir Putin submitted 30 to the State Duma in May. In March, Putin signed a decree on the basis of which Moscow suspended the fulfillment of obligations under the contract.

Washington informed Moscow of its decision to withdraw from the treaty in February of this year, that is, the United States was the first to withdraw from the INF Treaty. At the same time, the American side accused Russia of violating the terms of the agreement. The Russian side rejected such accusations.

Russia’s response to the actions of the United States was the development of a ground-based version of the Caliber complex with a long-range cruise missile.
