Russia lost 12 planes and helicopters in Syria

Specialists told about the losses of Russian videoconferencing in Syria.

Over the three years of the military operation in Syria, the Russian Aerospace Forces have lost 12 planes and helicopters, and the death toll has already exceeded a hundred people, which raises a number of questions from specialists and military analysts.

The Russian military operation in Syria, which began in the fall of 2015, made it possible to destroy almost all terrorists of the Islamic State group (a terrorist group whose activities are prohibited in Russia - ed.). Nevertheless, for almost three years, not without losses, most of which are not associated with the operation to eliminate terrorists.

In November 2015, the Turkish Air Force shot down a Russian front-line bomber that struck at positions of the Islamic state militants, and the Mi-8 helicopter, which rescued the navigator (pilot Oleg Peshkov tragically died - ed.), Came under fire, was completely destroyed.

In 2016, for reasons unrelated to the actions of militants, the Mi-28N helicopter was lost, whose crew lost control over the combat vehicle.

In October 2017, another Su-24 frontal bomber was lost - the aircraft rolled out beyond the runway and completely collapsed, and two months later, due to a technical malfunction, Mi-24 helicopter crashed.

In March 2018 year, at the approach to landing, in 500 meters from the airbase "Khmeimim" the military transport plane An-26 crashed, as a result of which 39 people were killed. In May of the same year, the Russian Su-30SM fighter, flying training, crashed over the Mediterranean Sea, and four days later, in the implementation of a planned flight, a Ka-52 helicopter crashed in eastern Syria.

Today it became known during the day that due to the actions of the Israeli military, the Russian plane Il-20 was shot down, on board of which were 15 people.

Thus, experts say, in three years of military operation, taking into account official data, Russia lost 9 aircraft in Syria, and these losses are not connected with the fulfillment of combat missions.
