Russia allowed Ukraine to attend a UN Security Council meeting after a request from the United States

Russia allowed the Ukrainian delegation to participate in the UN Security Council meeting on July 9 after a request from the United States. This was stated by the political coordinator of the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the UN Nadezhda Sokolova in her Telegram channel.

“What distinguished the Ukrainians in the UN Security Council this time? They sent a letter with a request to participate in the meeting on July 9 from one line: in fact, the demand itself, without even the minimum protocol politeness,” - said the diplomat.

Sokolova emphasized that the request from the Ukrainian side was sent formally and without addressing Russia as the chairman of the Security Council. Russia did not accept this request, noting that Ukraine could be admitted subject to receiving a valid request. As an example, the diplomatic official cited Poland, which, despite difficult relations with Russia, observes protocol decency.

The political coordinator also added that the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Sergei Kislitsa, has not changed his behavior. As a result, we had to ask the United States for Ukraine. Sokolova noted that the procedure allows for this option and therefore Russia, as the chairman of the Security Council, allowed Ukraine to attend the meeting.

Later, Russia's permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, expressed the opinion that it was important for Ukraine to show its superiority over the established norms of the Security Council and dictate its own rules of the game.
