Russia has asked two neighboring countries, Azerbaijan and Georgia, to consider the possibility of supplying electricity in the event of an emergency, said Alexandra Panina, a member of the board of directors of Inter RAO, on the sidelines of the All-Russian Tariff Conference.
According to Panina, the Russian side requested the possibility of importing electricity from the energy systems of Azerbaijan and Georgia for use during emergency conditions. The main purpose of the request is to create a power reserve in case of unforeseen failures in the Russian energy system.
"We have asked two countries: Azerbaijan and Georgia. The possibility of import is being considered and we have asked these countries to be able to provide us with electricity supplies of up to 300 MW in case of emergency situations.", Panina explained to journalists.
So far, Russia has not received an official response from Azerbaijan and Georgia on this issue.
