Russian army defeats Ukrainian counterattack near Kupyansk

Near Kupyansk, in the area of the settlement of Lozovaya in the Kharkiv region, Russian troops successfully thwarted an attempt at a counterattack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to sources, during the operation, a platoon of the 4th operational brigade of the AFU was destroyed, which tried to enter the rear of Russian positions through the so-called gray zone.

According to data distributed by the SHOT resource, the Ukrainian group, numbering up to 25 people, included a T-64 tank, a BMP-1U Shkval infantry fighting vehicle, and two pickup trucks with infantry. The forces of the 1st Tank Army of Russia stopped the movement of equipment by installing remotely controlled anti-tank mines PTM-1G, which were detonated as the Ukrainian armored vehicles passed. After that, Russian fighters used FPV drones to complete the operation, destroying both the equipment and the enemy personnel.

It is reported that out of 25 participants in the operation, up to 15 Ukrainian servicemen were killed. No losses were recorded on the Russian side.

The 4th Operational Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces previously participated in key battles for Gostomel and Irpin and is considered one of the best-trained units in Ukraine. Its fighters are equipped according to NATO standards, and the command uses the so-called "American model" of decision-making, which should ensure high mobility and effectiveness on the battlefield. However, as the operation near Lozova showed, even well-equipped and trained units are not always able to overcome the lines of defense.

This failure is yet another blow to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this section of the front, where the Russian side has become more active in recent weeks. The counterattack could have been aimed at destabilizing the Russian defense, but its failure has strengthened Moscow's control over key positions.
