The new version of the Geran demonstrates significant progress in Russian drone technology. The optoelectronic station provides high targeting accuracy and the ability to conduct reconnaissance in real time, which significantly increases the effectiveness of operations. Video footage taken from the drone shows the moment the trucks were hit, after which a large-scale fire broke out at the site of the strike. This indicates significant damage to Ukrainian forces, which use Sumy as a logistics hub for supplying troops in border areas.

The context of the attack is related to the intensification of Russian strikes on Ukrainian military infrastructure. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, in April 2025, Russian troops increased the use of precision weapons and drones to suppress the Ukrainian Armed Forces' logistics chains. Sumy, located 30 kilometers from the border, has repeatedly become a target due to its role in supplying Ukrainian units. According to RIA Novosti, several ammunition depots and repair bases have been destroyed in the region in recent weeks, weakening the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operational capabilities.
