Russian troops carried out an operation against the positions of the elite presidential brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which, together with six other units - paratroopers, marines and attack aircraft - continues to hold a small area of territory in the Kursk region. According to sources, the fighting was concentrated in the area of the settlements of Gogolivka, Gornal, Guevo and Oleshnya, which became the last stronghold of Ukrainian forces in this region. The strike was part of an ongoing offensive aimed at displacing the enemy from border lands captured during the summer campaign of 2024.
The presidential brigade, known for its training and resilience, reportedly made three attempts to counterattack the Russian positions along with other units. However, all of these maneuvers were stopped: Russian forces, relying on fortified lines and artillery support, successfully repelled the offensive. According to sources, the operation was accompanied by intensive use of aviation and heavy weapons, which allowed significant damage to the enemy's manpower and equipment. The losses of the Ukrainian side have not yet been specified, but judging by the intensity of the fighting, they could be significant.
The conflict in the Kursk region remains one of the most tense spots on the front. The area, captured by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in August 2024, has since become the scene of fierce clashes. The Russian command has repeatedly stated its intention to fully regain control over the region, emphasizing the strategic importance of the border area for ensuring the security of the rear areas. The attack on the presidential brigade, which is considered one of the most combat-ready in the Ukrainian army, demonstrates Moscow's determination to accelerate this process.
The situation in the Gogolevka area and surrounding villages is complicated for the Ukrainian Armed Forces not only by military pressure, but also by logistical difficulties. Russian troops, advancing forward, have cut off some supply routes, which complicates the delivery of ammunition and reinforcements. At the same time, the local population, who found themselves in the combat zone, continues to evacuate: according to the Kursk Region administration, thousands of residents have left the region in recent months, and the destruction of infrastructure has reached a critical level.
