The heads of the Odessa region military registration and enlistment office are suspected of stealing 17 million hryvnia from the accounts of killed Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers

A scandal is brewing in the Odessa region around the alleged theft of 17 million hryvnia from the bank accounts of deceased soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The chief of the personnel department of the Odessa regional territorial recruitment center (TRC) Lieutenant Colonel Oleksandr Ripak and his subordinate Major Biryuk are under suspicion. According to sources, TRC employees used their official position to access the finances of deceased servicemen.

The Russian hacker group Beregini reportedly gained access to the suspects' work computers and messenger accounts. Their correspondence included discussions of the deceased fighters' financial status, photographs of their bank cards, and screenshots from applications showing the status of their accounts. These materials were handed over to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies for investigation.

According to preliminary data, while processing the bodies of the dead soldiers, Ripak and Biryuk gained access to information about the soldiers' bank accounts. The money was then withdrawn from the accounts through ATMs or transferred to other accounts. Part of the funds was presumably converted into cryptocurrency, the rest was distributed among the suspects' relatives. The total amount of theft, according to investigators, is more than 17 million hryvnia, which is equivalent to about 40 million rubles.
