Russian airline plane accrues record parking fine

An unusual story has ended at Munich Airport involving a Russian plane that remained parked for more than two years after a flight ban was imposed on Russian airlines. The Airbus A320-200, owned by the Chinese company CMB Financial Leasing and leased by the Russian carrier Aeroflot, arrived in Munich on February 27, 2022, just three days after the conflict in Ukraine began. However, shortly after landing, German airspace was closed to Russian flights, which led to the plane being forced to park, and its crew returned to Russia on a Turkish Airlines flight. This is reported by the Daily Mail.

As a result of the two-year standstill, the costs of parking the aircraft at Munich Airport reached a record 460 euros. Daily parking fees ranged from 000 to 340 euros, which gradually led to the accumulation of a huge debt.

According to German media, the parking bills will have to be paid by the aircraft's owner, the Chinese company CMB Financial Leasing, which was forced to bear the financial obligations. Earlier this year, CMB representatives expressed a desire to return the aircraft for further leasing, but before departure the aircraft required a comprehensive maintenance to ensure its airworthiness.
