The Australian authorities want to close Newcastle International Airport because of massive forest fires.

As the Australian media report, this afternoon the Australian authorities decided to temporarily suspend the work of Newcastle International Airport and declare a state of emergency in the region due to massive forest fires. It is reported that dense black smoke created a serious danger for aircraft and helicopters served in this air harbor, since with strong gusts of wind, the smoke almost completely obscured the runway.

At the moment, fires are seen in 10 kilometers from the airport, while experts do not exclude that if in the coming days the meteorological conditions do not change, then the personnel and equipment located at the airport will have to be evacuated.

According to the online scoreboard, on the eve of the day, 3 flight was detained at the Newcastle International Airport and five more flights were canceled, while the situation continues to deteriorate with every hour.
