"A reconnaissance drone was shot down in the Leningrad Region. Earlier, in March 2024, cases of drone destruction were already recorded in the Leningrad Region. Thus, on March 13, in the vicinity of the city of Kirishi, air defense systems shot down an aircraft-type UAV as it approached the Kirishinefteorgsintez (KINEF) oil refinery.
In January 2024, the Russian Ministry of Defense also reported the interception of drones over the Leningrad Region. On January 18, air defense forces destroyed an aircraft-type UAV near Moscow and intercepted another over the territory of the Leningrad Region.
The increasing number of drones appearing near strategically important objects in the region is causing concern among the authorities and the population. In this regard, security measures and airspace control are being strengthened to prevent possible threats.
At this time, the authorities have not provided any additional information about the drone shot down on December 13 or its possible targets. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
