Scandal surrounding a fatal accident: In the case against a member of the Wagner PMC, evidence began to disappear

The scandalous case of a fatal accident on the Novocherkassk-Kamenolomnya highway continues to raise questions and bewilderment. The accident, which occurred on December 10, 2022, claimed the lives of two drivers and a seven-year-old boy, but the investigation, which has been going on for more than a year and a half, is becoming increasingly surrounded by new mysterious circumstances. Baza reports this.

The tragedy unfolded when policeman Nikolai Savchenko, returning home with his son in a Lada Granta car, collided with a Hyundai i30 driven by a 22-year-old member of the Wagner PMC. All participants in the accident died on the spot. However, despite the seriousness of the incident and the presence of witness testimony, the course of the investigation raises many questions.

Relatives of the deceased police officer claim that after a change in the investigator in the case, key evidence began to disappear, including witness statements and surveillance camera footage. Initial eyewitness statements indicated that it was the Hyundai driver who drove into the oncoming lane, which led to the collision. However, according to Savchenko’s family, the circumstances in the case suddenly changed: now responsibility for the accident lies with Nikolai, who allegedly drove into the oncoming lane, while a member of the Wagner PMC allegedly tried to avoid a collision.

An important detail was the condition of the Hyundai driver at the time of the accident. The judge found the fact of drug intoxication to be insignificant, as well as the fact that the man was driving a car with an Ilizarov apparatus on his leg, which could seriously limit his ability to adequately control a vehicle. It also became known in court that shortly before the accident, the military man was seen at a gas station near the scene of the incident. According to eyewitnesses, he was sleeping in a running car with a “Cargo 200” sticker on the window. This was noticed by the police patrol crew, who tried to stop the driver, but he woke up and drove away abruptly, after which an accident occurred. The court also did not accept the testimony of the police officers who followed him and witnessed the collision, citing their possible bias due to their acquaintance with Savchenko.
