US and Germany quarreled over INFDC

The former head of the NATO military committee accuses the US of betraying European allies.

According to the former head of the NATO Military Committee, General of the German Air Force, retired Harald Kuyat, the US withdrawal from the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF) is Washington’s refusal to fulfill its obligations to European allies. During an interview with Bayerischer Rundfunk, Kuyat called this decision of the Americans "betrayal."

The retired general is confident that the termination of the INF Treaty will bring difficulties to all parties. Any actions to which countries that have abandoned the Treaty will decide will turn out to be “worse than what we have at the moment,” he believes.

Kuyat hopes that Washington and Moscow will nevertheless manage to keep arrangements. To do this, they should revive the mutual inspections, which they stopped in the 2001 year.

As stated by US President Donald Trump, on February 2, the United States begins the exit procedure from the INF. On this day, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the response to the United States would be a mirror.

Making such a statement, Putin stressed that the proposals that the Russian side had made on disarmament remain in force.
