The US has no means of defense capable of withstanding Russian hypersonic weapons. Such a statement was made by the Chairman of the Strategic Command of the US Armed Forces, General John Hayten, at a hearing in the Senate. The general stressed that the US does not have the means to protect specifically from supersonic weapons. While in Russia and China, hypersonic armament programs are successfully introduced, in the United States, such projects are only at the stage of concept or testing. Hayten noted that the only option to confront this type of weaponry is retaliation by a nuclear triad.

Earlier, 2 March, Hayten made a proposal to counter supersonic weapons of the Russian Federation. The commander is counting on orbital-based weapons to prevent the launch and destruction of ballistic missiles and hypersonic aircraft.

A day earlier, on 1 March, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a message to the Federal Assembly, announced the arrival of hypersonic missile systems "Dagger", which have no analogues in the world.
