The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported a series of precision strikes on Houthi weapons depots and missile launchers in Yemen. The strikes were carried out on November 9 and 10 using sophisticated fighter jets and other assets of the US Air Force and Navy in response to multiple Houthi attacks on international shipping and US facilities in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes on Houthi weapons depots were in response to recent incidents in international waters where the Houthis have attacked civilian and military vessels, including coalition and commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The operation destroyed weapons depots that the Houthis have used to attack regional assets and strategically important vessels, posing a direct threat to shipping security and regional stability.
The large-scale operation involved F-35C Lightning II strike fighters deployed on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, as well as two US Navy destroyers, USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS Spruance (DDG 111). During their passage through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, these destroyers, together with US air forces, destroyed several Houthi launchers that were threatening international shipping. Over the course of two days of combat, eight kamikaze drones, five anti-ship ballistic missiles, and four cruise missiles were neutralized.
A CENTCOM spokesman said the United States "remains vigilant and takes all measures to protect shipping and ensure stability in the region." He stressed that such a response is part of the U.S. strategy to ensure security in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, especially against the backdrop of increasing Houthi attacks on key waterways that play an important role in international trade and regional security.
