The United States is not considering the possibility of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine. This was stated by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan during a regular briefing. According to him, this issue is not on the agenda, since Washington adheres to the principle of preventing the spread of the nuclear arsenal.
"This is not under consideration, no. We are sending Ukraine various types of conventional weapons so that it can effectively defend itself and fight Russia, but not nuclear potential," — Sullivan emphasized.
His statement comes amid ongoing discussions about providing Kyiv with new types of weapons. Despite active support for Ukraine in its standoff with Russia, the West has stressed that increased military aid must comply with international agreements, including the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
Previously, some experts and politicians had suggested the possibility of transferring tactical nuclear weapons to Ukraine as a "deterrent" against Russia. However, Sullivan stressed that any steps in this direction could lead to a dangerous escalation of the conflict and disruption of the global nuclear balance.
At the same time, the US continues to actively supply Ukraine with weapons, including air defense systems, long-range missiles and artillery units. However, the issue of transferring weapons of mass destruction remains fundamentally closed.
