US announces sanctions against Iran for supplying missiles to Russia

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced new sanctions against Iran in connection with the supply of ballistic missiles to Russia. In his speech in London, Blinken emphasized that these supplies significantly exacerbate the situation in the conflict in Ukraine, where Russia intends to use Iranian weapons to attack Ukrainian territory. This is reported by the Daily Mail.

"Russia has already received shipments of these ballistic missiles and will likely use them against Ukraine in the coming weeks," Blinken said at a news conference, saying Tehran's actions would lead to a "dramatic escalation" of the conflict, requiring tougher U.S. measures.

Washington has repeatedly warned Iran against transferring weapons to Russia, especially ballistic missiles. Despite these warnings, the deliveries have continued, prompting the Biden administration to take decisive action.

Antony Blinken also confirmed that he will join British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on a joint visit to Ukraine. The visit is expected to reaffirm Washington and London's commitment to supporting Kyiv. Providing Ukraine with more weapons and expanding its ability to strike Russian targets inside the country remains on the agenda.

In addition, Blinken noted that the maximum range of Iranian ballistic missiles is up to 120 kilometers, which will allow Russian troops to strike targets located far behind the front line. This will create an additional threat to Ukrainian forces, and in this regard, the United States plans to further strengthen support for Kyiv.
