US promised to expel Russia from the Arctic

US promises to stop the dominance of Russia and China in the Arctic

The commander of the US Navy in Europe and Africa, Admiral James Foggo, as reported by the Washington Examiner, assured in his statement that the United States would not give Russia and China the opportunity to dominate the Arctic.

The admiral said that the Northern Sea Route "cannot be someone's lake." The Arctic region should be accessible to any country in the Arctic Council.

"Russians consider the Arctic their possessions"- outraged Foggo. At the same time, he said that she was an international territory. The United States, as the admiral is sure, has an interest in the fact that the Arctic "remained free and open."

The commander recalled that China also wants to use the Northern Sea Route. However, as he pointed out, Beijing has only observer status in the Arctic Council, but he is seeking to obtain "his share." This desire stems from the presence in China of a large number of ships capable of operating in the Arctic.

As for the American companies, they have no interest in the "Polar Silk Road". The reason - there are too small depths.

As reported by 18 February in the media, the British are going to increase the number of their troops in the Arctic. This, according to London, is necessary to protect NATO’s northern flank from Russia. British Defense Secretary Gavin Wilmson noted that Russian military forces operating in the Arctic region do not allow believing in "exclusively defensive goals."

President Vladimir Putin in November 2018 noted the importance of the Arctic, which means that we should continue to strengthen our presence there. As the president said, in the Arctic region, Russia is implementing research initiatives, large programs in the development of the region, and serious infrastructure projects.
