Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the United States may consider withdrawing its troops from Iraq and Syria after the presidential elections. Fidan said Washington is increasingly leaning toward reducing its military presence in regions under Iranian influence and seeking to minimize risks to its troops.
"The US does not want to maintain its military presence in areas where Iran's influence is growing. As long as its troops remain in these areas, they are at risk of attack," — Fidan said in an interview with the Turkiye newspaper
He stressed that a possible withdrawal of American troops could be part of a strategy to reduce tensions in the region and reassess American foreign policy priorities.
According to the Turkish side, changes in US policy could lead to significant changes in security in the Middle East and affect the balance of power, especially in Iraq and Syria, where the struggle for influence between key players remains relevant.
