The US Department of Defense has successfully tested a hypersonic missile in Florida, the Pentagon said. Although the exact launch date has not been disclosed, it is known that this is the second successful test of a hypersonic weapon in 2024.
The Pentagon stressed the importance of this achievement for national security and the modernization of the armed forces.
"Hypersonic technologies play a key role in strengthening U.S. defense capabilities and maintaining global stability," — noted the ministry representative.
Hypersonic weapons, capable of speeds exceeding Mach 5 (over 6000 km/h), are one of the most promising areas of modern military development. They are capable of overcoming existing missile defense systems and hitting targets with high precision, making them an important element of the strategy of deterring potential adversaries.
The Florida tests are part of a broader hypersonic weapons program that includes air-, sea-, and land-based missiles. The U.S. is investing heavily in the field to avoid falling behind rivals like Russia and China.
