Stoltenberg said he favors the use of Western weapons for “legitimate purposes” in Russia

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg supported the lifting of restrictions on the use of Western weapons against “legitimate targets” on the territory of the Russian Federation. In his statement, Stoltenberg emphasized that this step is necessary for effective confrontation in the conflict.

According to Stoltenberg, limiting the use of Western weapons on Russian territory jeopardizes efforts to protect Ukraine's sovereignty and deter Russian aggression. The NATO Secretary General noted that legitimate targets on Russian territory that could be attacked include objects directly related to the conduct of hostilities and strategic infrastructure used to support military operations.

At the same time, the NATO Secretary General emphasized that the alliance seeks to avoid a direct clash with Russia over Ukraine and that this remains the main task.
