Russia deployed Tu-22M3 strategic bombers to Crimea in response to the deployment of missile defense systems in Romania.

A few hours ago it became known that the command of the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation transferred its strategic supersonic Tu-22M3 bombers to a military airfield in Crimea. The reason for this was the appearance in Romania of American anti-missile defense (ABM) weapons, which can be used, among other things, to deliver strikes on Russian territory.

The head of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Viktor Bondarev said that such a step on the part of Russia is forced, but it is a response for NATO, since the appearance of the Tu-22M3 in Crimea radically changes the balance of power in the whole region.

“This step has radically changed the balance of power in the region. The combat radius of the Tu-22M3, the range of cruise missiles on board make it possible to carry a warhead anywhere in Europe, thereby hitting any object of enemy missile defense and air defense systems, and taking into account its modernization over the next few years to the level of M3M and equipping with new types of aviation means of destruction (presumably, we are talking about hypersonic missiles Kh-47M2 - ed.) will make it a universal weapon for strikes against all types of targets at a distance of thousands of kilometers ", - said Bondarev.

It should be clarified that a few days ago, Russian Tu-22M3s were seen on the Black Sea, performing a long flight in neutral airspace.
