Strelkov: For Ukraine, holding onto part of Russia's territory is a matter of principle

Former DPR Defense Minister Igor Strelkov (real name Igor Girkin) said that holding certain Russian territories is facing tough resistance from Ukrainian troops. In an interview with RTVI, he noted that it is fundamentally important for Kyiv to hold positions in these areas, which explains the active concentration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' best units and equipment in these areas.

According to Strelkov, Ukrainian forces are demonstrating a high level of resistance and regularly launch counterattacks, which complicates the offensive actions of the Russian army.

In turn, the Russian army is forced to conduct frontal attacks, which, according to Strelkov, is due to a lack of resources to conduct larger-scale operations. He noted that the lack of strategic coverage on the part of Russia is due to insufficient mobilization and limited capabilities for the transfer of reserves.

"We are forced to attack head-on, since the command does not have the forces to carry out more complex maneuvers. This is directly related to the fact that the necessary mobilization measures have not been carried out," - he noted.

Strelkov also expressed concern about the possible long-term consequences of the current situation.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on Strelkov’s statement.
